2014 Day Planners That Will Inspire

Dec 28, 2013

With New Years quickly approaching and our wallets feeling a little empty from the holidays, I decided to post about something a little simpler today. Something that we are all probably in need of. Day Planners!

Whenever I see day planners they are usually the terrifying kind people buy last minute....the ones that are just black with an odd texture to the cover. My question is...why?! You can get such pretty ones for about the same price! Plus, it's something you'll be carrying all year round. Why not add a smile to your face when you pull it out of your bag?
1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5 // 6

Here are the ones currently on my wishlist....I have no idea which one to buy yet.

They range from Kate Spade to Jonathan Adler.  But I'm definitely favoring the gold polka dots a little more. Maybe because it goes with my blog! Hmm? But they are some really quirky prints am I right? I wasn't lying when I said I was quirky guys....my blood probably consists of penguins in top hats riding gondolas. :)

Affordable Colorblock Coats

Dec 22, 2013

Winter began yesterday, and with that in mind today's post is all about coats! Colorblock coats that is! You might not have even noticed, but this fashion trend is creeping up on us again. When I first discovered this I wasn't all too excited...but the new coat designs have really changed my mind. Instead of being bright and bold they are a lot more subdued, which is great for winter!

With Post-Christmas sales already happening (I can't believe it either...) you can get these coats at pretty affordable prices too!

*NOTE*: Some of these items will sell out fast because of the holiday season. I recommend shopping in store if this is the case. For coats by Ruche, the retailer has a "notify on restock" button next to the sizes available.

1) Members Only Homecoming Wool Coat // Urban Outfitters $169 - The colors and collar make this jacket too good to pass up. Great for walking around campus.

2) BB Dakota Isolde Hooded Coat // Ruche $79.99 - This jacket is not entirely colorblock, but it was too cute to not include! The faux fur and fair isle make it very cozy and down to earth. Like you just came inside from a snowfight with your boyfriend.

3) Sugarhill Pheobe Double Breasted Coat // Ruche $123.99 - For some reason this coat screams Audrey Hepburn to me. The bold buttons and a-line bottom makes it perfect for a date night or dinner party with the girls!

4) BB Dakota Collarless Coat // Nordstrom $58.98  (Also here for a higher price) - Very clean and sophisticated, this coat is perfect for wearing to work or any important events. I love how only the top button is black!!

Party Heels Under $60

Dec 16, 2013

So today I was debating what to put on here for my blog and BAM! it came to me. Party heels.

You might be thinking "Who needs a pair of those? I'll only wear them once or twice". Hey! That's what I used to think! But then last minute I'd always get invited to some party. Leaving me frantically tearing my closet apart for something to put on my feet.

So ladies, if you're debating getting party heels for the first, second, or even eighth time...I highly suggest you get them. Prevent yourself from future closet disasters and stress that is so not needed!!

This is also the best time to find cute party shoes because New Years is around the corner. Have you guys tried looking for heels in the Spring or Fall? I did last year. You're lucky if you can even get a decent neutral pair!

 Retail Information:

1) Gold & Lucite Heels //  Lulus $35 - I think this is great for a New Years Eve out with the girls. It has just the right amount of sexy with the chunky lucite heel. Plus the gold to get you noticed!

2) Zigi Soho Chantel Pump // DSW $49.99 - These are refined which makes them great for an office party! The curves are also similar to D'Orsay flats and the black velvet makes them luxe.

3) Enzo Angiolini Persist Pump // DSW $59.99 - Two words. Ombre Sequins. Need I say more?

4) Street-Chic Faux Leather Pumps // Forever21 $29.80 - This is a pair that will pretty much go with everything, and give you a slightly rebellious look! Kinda like you came in with Adam Levine...

5) Sam & Libby Dominique Pointed Toe Pump // Target $39.99 - A two for one! You not only own metallic heels but faux snakeskin ones as well.

6) Embellished Heel Sandals // Asos $45.35 - That glitter strap can bring out even the best of pedicures!

Quirky Gift Ideas!

Dec 9, 2013

Hey guys!

Need help finding that perfect gift for someone that has everything? I think we all know one of them. Well here's a trick I discovered that gets you there. Try going quirky. Yep....quirky!

And if there's someone who knows what quirky is all about, it's definitely me. I've never been one that was attracted to anything that falls under "the norm". I secretly bought a magnetic nose piercing for myself when I was 11 and my high school graduation shoes weren't the recommended "neutral"...but gold! So when it comes to what I'm giving to my friends and family this holiday season I'm no different. You can always expect the unexpected with me!

& Unique gifts are my all time favorite because not only are they fun, but they allow you to connect more with the person you're giving them to. For example, you can get a really cute mug for your friend, OR a Lisa Frank mug that reminds them of their childhood. The unique gift is the one they will remember. Keep that in mind guys! It's the best tip I can give!

So with that in mind....here are some great quirky gifts that they'll never expect!

( NOTE: Because of the crazy sales going on right now, some of the items below will sell out quickly. If that's the case you can wait for them to re-stock online or buy it in the store! )

Quirky Holiday Gift Ideas

1) Tea Cup Magnets, Paper Source $15.95 - Perfect for that co-worker who loves Alice in Wonderland!

2) Sephora + Pantone Universe Radiant Cut Shadow Palette, Sephora $38 $25 - A great find for your friend who wears the most lust-worthy eye shadows. These highly pigmented shades will make her very happy!

3) Nerd Owl Mug by Lorrie Veasey, Amazon, $10.00 - For that relative with the humorous side and very nerdy tendencies!

4) Born Lippy Fruity Lip Lollipop Gift, Body Shop $20 $14.00 - For your roommate who's currently on the dating scene. Smoooch.

5) Tri-Stone Hook Bangle, C Wonder $38.00 - For your sister who loves the ombre trend and dressing like a million bucks.

6) Sleeping Cat Calendar, ModCloth $11.99 $9.99 - For your father who loves to take cat naps and lay on the couch watching football.

Sparkly Holiday Accessories For Less!

Dec 3, 2013

Hey guys!

The fresh snow, gifts with big bows and cozy warm fireplaces. People yelling and fighting over the last pair of socks. You got it! The holidays are here!

Meaning one thing for fashion....that glitter is officially back!

Glitter and sequins might not seem like it...but they work for all ages during the holidays (when worn correctly)! Even if you're just rocking a glitter encrusted belt! So to ease your holiday wear worries, I've compiled some of my favorite sparkles, glitter and sequin items out right now for less.

Retail Information: Click links to go to their retailers!
(Note! #7 is available only to those in the UK, France, Denmark and Germany)

5)   Sweetness & Sparkle Heel, ModCloth $49.99  //  6) Touch of Glam Fingerless Gloves, Forever21 $11
7)  L'oreal Confetti Top Coat ....for those in the US try this !  //  8)  Dress, Lulu's $60

How To Wear It:

1) Less is MORE : If you wear too much glitter, you are going to look like you are ready to perform in a stadium than sit to dinner. So if you normally overdress, take off an extra piece of jewelry before you head out the door. And always stay far away from face and hair glitter. I can't express that enough!

2) Keep It Chic : For a foolproof outfit, try this tip. Wear either one standout color with neutral accessories or play it safe and wear all neutrals. So... if you're wearing a red sequin dress, keep to a neutral bag, shoes, etc. Otherwise, stick to a mixture of silver, tan, gold and black in your outfit.

3) A Little Shy?  No worries! Nothing says you have to wear massive amounts of glitter. Keep your look simple by adding small amounts of sparkle to your outfit. Whether it be in your nail polish, eye shadow, earrings, a belt or even a small hair clip!

The Affordable Winter Handbag Series // Neutrals

Nov 26, 2013

The last part of the Affordable Winter Handbag Series is here!

Today is all about neutral bags. Neutral colors are great for handbags because they go with almost everything in your closet. No need to worry about if your handbag doesn't work with your outfit. The chances of that happening with a neutral bag is pretty unlikely!

Thanks to the amazing sales right now, I've was even able to include a Michel Kors Wristlet! I think this is the first time that's been able to happen...and I'm a little too excited about it...
Retail Information:

1) Girl About Town Satchel, Forever 21, $21.80
2) MICHAEL Michael Kors Wristlet, Macy's, $48
3) Betsey Johnson Tic Tac Stow Bag, ModCloth, $78
4) Trimmed With Studs Clutch, DailyLook, $34.99

But sorry Michael, the Betsey Johnson bag is one of my favorites out right now. It's chic and fierce... two things that are hard to mix! Plus, it's out of the box. Which I definitely am. I will wear something crazy over something boring any day. Especially with my accessories!

Have a happy holiday everyone! Safe travels if you're headed out!

Hey guys! I hope you like the new look! I spent a lot of time working on it!

Retail Information:

If you have the time to check out this blog you're probably trying to relax. I know I do it. So why should you search for great steals vs. deals? Who wants to do that?

To help you out, I've cut out that part for you. While doing some late online browsing I came across this great lust vs. must and I had to share it! I know it isn't easy to find them!

The lust in this post is a Vineet Bahl peplum top. The picture doesn't do it justice...it's got beautiful embellishments. But I definitely don't have that much money to just throw around. Plus, can you imagine if you stained that? I think I'd cry!

Thankfully, H&M has a very similar version of this top. One that's budget friendly, especially around the holidays!

I think it's pretty perfect for New Years, or any holiday party right now. This is when we seem to bring on the sparkles!!

It's here! Part 2/3 of the Affordable Winter Handbag Series!

Winter white is my favorite handbag color when it gets cold out. It goes so well with all of the holiday sweaters, mugs, scarves and mittens we wear! You don't have to worry about changing your handbag to match your outfit so it makes getting ready a lot easier! Especially when you have to focus on shopping for gifts!

So, to get you prepared for this coming season, here's an easy way to get your winter handbag out of the way. Here are some of my favorite winter whites! Starting at $9.99! I'm serious!

Retail Information: Click on links to go their retailers!

Btw, have any of you been to the mall lately? I went yesterday and wow it was packed! I also thought it was funny that they played....get this...Backstreet Boys music in between Christmas songs at the food court. I was like "Who came up with this mix? Seriously?!"

But needless to say, I got some great deals. H&M has sweaters this weekend for buy 1 get 1 free! Plus an extra 10% off when you text for it at the checkout counter. And H&M sweaters are not the cheapest around! So I freaked out at that deal. I'll post a picture later as my proof.

Express also seemed to have an awesome deal, but I didn't have time to go in and check it out! So...heads up with that as well!

What to Wear on Thanksgiving

Nov 13, 2013

Hey Frugalista's!

Thanksgiving can be a really stressful time for all of us. The baking, traveling, and tidying up can make you dizzy!

One thing we shouldn't have to worry about is what we plan on wearing. Yet, every Thanksgiving I definitely do! You only get to see certain family members for these holidays--especially if they live far away. So you definitely don't want to show up in sweats! How you dress can greatly reflect how you are in life. Messy, eclectic, organized, etc.

So here's a fool-proof guide I've created to help YOU find the perfect outfit for this Thanksgiving.

The Rules:

1) BE INSPIRED BY FALLS COLORS - Find pictures of Fall that inspire you. Notice the colors in them! When you are putting together your Thanksgiving outfit, keep these colors in mind. It helps a lot!

2) TYPE OF EVENT? - We all have different Thanksgivings. So you need to decide what category yours...and the outfits worn will fall under. Casual? Casually Dressy? or Dressy? This will help you decide if you need to even consider heels!

3) TONE IT DOWN! - Yes! Be inspired by Fall colors! But don't overdo it! Use dark browns and blacks to help balance your outfit, and keep you from looking too festive!

The Affordable Winter Handbag Series // Black

Nov 6, 2013

The colder temps have arrived, and with that we have to put away our favorite colorful handbag. Sad I know! Time to take out the neutral, winter white and black handbags instead. But don't fear, a simple handbag is now far from ordinary!

For the fun of it, this is 1 of 3 posts in my Affordable Winter Handbag Series!

Today we start with black handbags, and then I will follow with winter whites and neutrals in the coming weeks! Hope you enjoy them! They are all highly rated (I checked!) and super cute! Because those two mean tons to us, am I right? :)

Product Information: click the links below to go to their retailers

Black bags are a wonderful way to show your style. Pick through varieties of textures, details and embellishments to find a bag that really stands out! The above bags all have features that really make them shine.

For example, the first from Daily Look has a great leather texture that makes it look very chic. Plus you get the studded details! My favorite however is the one by Urban Outfitters. The metal embellishments make it so luxe! Especially the dainty chain strap. Perfect for upcoming holiday outfits or even just a quick trip to the coffee shop.

So breathe and keep calm this holiday season by worrying about one less thing. Your new winter handbag :)

Dress Fall Casual With What's Already In Your Closet!

Nov 1, 2013

It's comfy, it's casual, and it's fashionable?!

Fall casual looks are on trend right now and I'm definitely not complaining. I'll happily wear comfy boots and scarves to college class over heels and skirts (yes, I've done it). But it isn't easy for everyone--I've seen plenty of women accidentally ruin this look. And oh man it kills me to see it! This trend requires laziness...not over thinking. The kind I had in elementary school when I would sneak on the bus with different colored socks. Shh...don't tell....

So..here are some of my favorite tips and tricks to help you nail this trend!

1) Start With Four Basics
-A Pair of Jeans
-Boots
-A Long Sleeve Tee
-A Casual Piece of Outerwear (oversized sweaters work too!)

 2) Add Comfy Elements - Anything comfy will do. Just make sure that the colors all go with one another! Some of my favorites are knee high socks, infinity scarves, mittens, & snow hats.

3) Jewels are Optional- If you want to make your casual look a little more glamorous, add minimal amounts of jewelry. Midi-rings, a pendant necklace, etc. Otherwise, you can skip it.

 4) Carry Around A Hot Drink - This is just my personal weirdness. But everything just feels cozier with hot mugs of apple cider or coffee. Try it out!

Find Your Cozy/Chic Sweater For Fall!

Oct 25, 2013

Hey Frugalista's!

A big essential that I love for Fall is a neutral sweater. But not a boring neutral sweater. We women need some fun in our style! Am I right? There are a lot of great neutral sweaters out right now that are anything but simple. They are pretty much an essential in my book because they can be incorporated with tons of outfits and mixed with all kinds of jewelry and accessories. All without making your appearance dull!

Here are some of my favorites out right now. Prices range from $18 to $60. I understand we all have different budgets so I've made more of a range this time with prices!

  Cozy/Chic Neutral Sweater

By the way, are any of you dressing up for Halloween? I bought some galaxy suspenders from Forever 21. I'm going to be a super nerd this year. If any of you are stuck on outfits, there are some great low budget options on Pinterest. My other favorite is a burglar. Just wear a striped shirt, black pants, a beanie and carry around a "money" bag. Simple but cute!

Have a great weekend guys!

90s Grunge Fashion For Less

Oct 18, 2013

Being a child of the 90's, I was beyond floored when I heard that grunge fashion was back! The 90's were amazing. Cartoons weren't super edited to make parents happy and artists like Nirvana came into the picture. You could go to school looking like you got out of bed and be in style! Don't forget that we could play baseball in the street. Now you never see that happen. If I could go back for a day i absolutely would! Anyone else wanna come with me when I figure out how to? Hmm?

So..because of all that, I thought it would be fun to make a set of my favorite grunge pieces out right now. That is, all the ones we can buy for less!

*NOTE* This is an older post, but a lot of you guys really like it. Click here for to see my most current grunge posts. I post grunge stuff all the time! :)

How do i wear it?
Grunge is an easy look to pull off. Never look too put together. If you do, add something that you would never think to put with your outfit. For example, a nice dress with combat boots. Or in my set above, a random snow hat. Remember, grunge is about a few things. Dark florals, velvet textures, plaids plaids and more plaids, chunky shoes and hats (usually bowlers or beanies). Oh, and I don't recommend this look AT ALL  for work or formal functions!

Easy Ways to Update Your Wardrobe

Oct 11, 2013

Today's post is about something I just experienced last week. I went to switch out my closet from summer clothing to fall clothing. But....eek...I soon discovered that my fall wardrobe was duller than dull. I guess I went crazy cleaning out my clothing or something? Have any of you had this happen? I only have black, gray and neutral colors left!

So...when our wardrobe lacks color, it's best to supply it. Although it might feel like it, it doesn't mean we have to go out and buy completely new shirts, pants and handbags. Here are some easy ways I found to update a boring wardrobe!

Easy Ways to Update Your Wardrobe

 Colorful Scarf
Try one in a silky texture and you'll be able to use it for more than chilly weather. Scarves can help easily dress up an outfit, or make it comfortably laid back. I especially like them over cardigans, but that's just me!

 Statement Necklace
These are really popular right now so they come in a large assortment of colors. Try a bold one and watch how many times you'll end up reaching for it. I use mine a lot more than I thought I would! They can quickly make a dull outfit really interesting which is great when you're on the run!

 Bold Loafers
As a lot of you know, I'm all about two for one deals. This is one of them! :) Mens inspired clothing is not only on trend for the fall, but a pair of loafers in a bright color can instantly make an outfit chic. Same goes for animal prints (leopard is my fav.)!

 Patterned Pants
I love these because they are very easy to incorporate into your wardrobe. The texture allows them to be easily dressed up for work with heels or dressed down with a t-shirt at home. The best part of all? They really stand out!

How to Shop Thrift Sales!

Oct 5, 2013

Where I live, October arrives with thrift, yard, and rummage sales galore. I swear I've been raised around them since I only had my babysitting money to work with as a teen. I think it's paid off because I've found a lot of bargains at these sales. The picture above includes some great deals I found this week all in one shopping trip. Loft, Free People and a Designer belt!

I'm not going to lie...with these kind of sales comes a lot of junk. The process can get pretty messy and time consuming. But always remember that someone's trash is another's treasure. If you have the patience, you too can find great bargains! Here's how!

Rules to Follow:

1) Be Early  - If you really want a deal, it's good to get there before the crowds come. The early bird does get the worm after all. I have gotten some insane deals because of this.

2) Look Through Everything - Often the best bargain buys are hidden where shoppers don't tend to look. I find that a good amount of  people don't have the patience to search to the bottom of a bin or look under piles of items. But patience is key at these sales if you want to find something great.

3) Question the Price - Before you even let yourself see the price...think to yourself, "What price would I pay for this?" Then check the tag. If the price is nowhere near what you'd pay, forget it. It's not a deal and you know it.

4) Check the Quality - A $100 sweater might be on a rack for 5 bucks, but it doesn't mean that it's really a deal. Check for stains, tears or rips. I have run into many sellers that like to prey on people. Be smart and don't let it happen.

5) Will I use it?  - Avoid the impulse buys. It's never a deal if it's going to sit in your closet and collect dust. Think about how many times you will honestly use it. If it's more than a couple times, you are good to go!

Cute Animal Clothing under $40

Sep 27, 2013

Woodland animals are adorable. They're also everywhere right now! I've always been a big owl fan so I'm definitely eating this up. Before you know it I'll have a owl themed lifestyle. Think you've seen this trend before? You're not wrong. It was really big last year among celebrities but has apparently come back for a round two!

Animals like this remind me of when I went camping as a kid. I used to be terrified of half of them at night. Thinking they would eat me through my tent. Now I want to wear them? It's funny what fashion will do to you. Never thought I'd want to wear a bug on my finger.

Here's some of my favorites!

Critter Craze

How do I wear it?:
Small accessories and patterns can generally be mixed together in an outfit if they are similar colors. But, in my opinion, large graphics of animals need to always stay to only one per outfit. Otherwise, you can risk making your look appear childish. We don't want that!

What's your favorite way to wear cute animals?

Have a great Friday!

The Correct Way To Clean Out Your Closet

Sep 17, 2013

How to Correctly Clean Out Your Closet

Some people only spring clean. But I fall clean too! My closet that is!  The beginning of September has always been when I thoroughly clean out my closet. In my opinion, nothing prepares a closet for winter more than cleaning it out and adding space. Winter holidays + presents = tons of clutter opportunities! Don't let it happen Frugalista's! Start early!

Also worth noting...I decided on some things yesterday. To make my blog fit into my life better and have greater content for you, I've decided to post 1-2 times a week. I was attempting every other day but that made  my life a little too hectic! Blogs should be fun! Not stressful! As I get used to bloggin I will obviously update more. But if you have a blog too...remember! It's meant for fun!

But back to the fun stuff! Here's my rules for cleaning out your closet!

Rules to Follow:

1) Always Donate- If it isn't destroyed or stained, another person would be happy to wear it. Not your garbage can. Remember! One persons trash is another persons treasure!

2) Recycle- If it's destroyed or worn out, throw it in a bag for recycling. Check if your local center recycles clothing. A lot actually do!

3) Ask Questions- Sometimes it's hard to let go of some clothing. Even if you don't use it anymore. So ask yourself these questions to help you out.

  • Have I worn it in the past year?
  • Does it still fit me?
  • Is it still in style?
  • Have I outgrown it?
  • Does it reflect who I am? most important!!

These tips will help you get rid of a lot of stuff you've been saving. So roll up your sleeves and get ready to enjoy your clutter-less closet!

Romantic Maxi Skirts for Fall 2013

Sep 9, 2013

Hey guys! Can you believe it's September already? Have any of you been wondering how to wear a maxi skirt this Fall? I have! I also noticed that in September society seems to get a little obsessed with romance. Think snuggly over-sized sweaters, big hot mugs of cider and late night lounging by the campfire roasting marshmallows. Do any of you see it too? So...inspired by the season I compiled some of my favorite romantic maxi skirts. You don't have to be in a relationship to enjoy them either. Be romantic whenever you freaking want to! Enjoy Frugalista's!

How Do I Wear It?
Some people love to pair over-sized sweaters with maxi skirts, but I'm not too crazy about it. Try this instead. Find a classic fit tee in your closet (black or white is the best). To avoid looking too bulky, tuck the tee into your skirt. Then throw a denim, faux leather (save them animals!) or moto jacket on top. Finish your look with some ankle boots or flip flops!
